Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Stew

Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Stew by Alison's AllspiceThis Brazilian coconut shrimp stew is traditionally called moqueca.  It can be made with fish or various types of seafood.  I decided to try this dish because I loved the look of the creamy coconut with the rich seafood.

In my version I only used shirmp and not multiple types of seafood.  This simplified the dish to be something that I could make with mostly pantry staples and frozen shirmp. Continue reading

You can certainly make this recipe with any kind of noodle.  The flavor won’t be that different, but I do like the contrast that it adds to the dish.  The pink shrimp look so inviting on the black noodles! Continue reading

Quick Cilantro Garlic Seared Shrimp by Alison's AllspiceYou know, I have really been on a cilantro kick recently!  I didn’t always like cilantro,  however.  I found it to be an incredibly over-powering flavor and never used it in my dishes.  It’s funny how tastes change, though.  I tried cilantro on this jalapeno tomato and cilantro pizza and couldn’t get enough.  I started trying it on other things, like cilantro lime black bean salad, and this weeks sweet potato salad.  Needless to say, I’m hooked!  This recipe, quick cilantro garlic seared shrimp is a weeknight favorite because shrimp cook in a flash! Five Spice Shrimp Tacos with Rhubarb Ginger Sauce

Five Spice Shrimp Tacos with Rhubarb Ginger Sauce by Alison's AllspiceHave you guys tried chinese 5-spice powder yet?  It’s been a popular up-and-coming spice for a while now, and I’m just now getting on board.  Chinese five-spice is a blend of Szechwan pepper, star anise, cinnamon, cloves, and fennel.  It has a wonderfully warming characteristic that pairs perfectly with other Asian flavors, such as ginger, and is not spicy.  My five spice shrimp tacos with rhubarb ginger sauce are an amazing twist between Asian and Mexican cuisines!
