Bold Blue Cheese Vinaigrette by Alison's AllspiceFriends, today let’s talk about blue cheese.  I am a huge fan; I love the creamy texture and bold flavor. This bold blue cheese vinaigrette is vinegar and olive oil based instead of the standard creamy dressing.  It’s my favorite new way to do salads!

Vinaigrette is my favorite salad dressing, so it’s no wonder why I love this blue cheese vinaigrette.  I love the bold flavor of the vinegar, and I use a little more than other blue cheese vinaigrette recipes. My suggestions on changing that, next. Continue reading →

Buffalo Cauliflower Blue Cheese Pizza by Alison's AllspiceI spend a fair amount of time over on pinterest looking at recipe ideas and getting inspired by other bloggers.  Buffalo pizza’s caught my eye there because I love all things buffalo.  Reviewing recipes, I noticed that the sauce you can use on a buffalo pizza varies quite greatly.  Some people use the buffalo sauce as a base, but that means every bite is is loaded with spice and their is no relief from the heat.  Some recipes use bottled ranch dressing, but I didn’t like the sound of that either.  I developed my buffalo cauliflower blue cheese pizza with a homemade blue cheese pizza sauce! Holiday Butternut Pecan Salad with Berry Vinaigrette by Alison's AllspiceIn early September, I visited a small Italian cafe for lunch.  They had a pumpkin ravioli and butternut squash salad on special that I tried and loved!  The salad came topped with cold ravioli, and a mixed berry vinaigrette on the side.  I loved all the fall flavors, and the colors reminded me of the holidays.  This months recipe redux theme was to create “naturally-colored/naturally-dyed holiday fare.”  When I recreated this holiday butternut pecan salad with berry vinaigrette, I knew it was perfect for the redux! Peach Basil Pizza with Balsamic Drizzle by Alison's AllspiceThis pizza is one of my favorites.  Pizza is on regular rotation at my house, and it is always something special, like this peach basil pizza with balsamic drizzle.  It is loaded with fresh summer flavors; we simply can’t get enough!  I love to incorporate fresh seasonal ingredients on pizza.  The peach is juicy and along with the balsamic drizzle, there is plenty of moisture so you don’t need any sauce.  Top with melty cheese and some fresh herbs, you’ll be eating it all summer long! Buffalo Blue Cheese Vegetarian Taquitos by Alison's AllspiceThese buffalo blue cheese vegetarian taquitos were created completely on a whim.   Oftentimes I buy a few extra ingredients that aren’t on my grocery list at the store, simply because they are on sale. One night when I needed a quick weeknight meal, I riffled through the fridge and found some 6-inch tortillas, so I whipped up these taquitos .  I had seen a vegan buffalo taquitos pin on pinterest and thought it looked like a fantastic idea, but I hadn’t even look at the recipe. Blue Cheese Wedge Salad with Smoked Tofu Bacon by Alison's AllspiceI love to eat salads at restaurants.  They are always so much more indulgent than the salads I tend to make at home.  After trying blue cheese wedge salad at many restaurants,  I couldn’t resist remaking the recipe at home.

This salad recipe is made with iceburg lettuce.  This is the only time I use iceburg in my kitchen.  Other lettuces don’t hold up to my standards for a wedge.

The crispness and texture are perfect, and I can indulge in my blue cheese obsession.  The only true down side to iceburg lettuce is that it is not nutritious like other leafy greens. Continue reading →
