Cherry Tomato Pasta Puttanesca

Cherry Tomato Pasta Puttanesca by Alison's AllspiceOctober is finally here, and the garden is starting to wind down.  It’s that time of year when I have more cherry tomatoes than I know what to do with!  This year I experimented with this cherry tomato pasta puttanesca.

Puttanesca is known as the poor man meal in early Italy.  It has simple ingredients that bring in big flavors. Canned tomatoes are more traditional, but I gave this simple Italian dish a fresh spin by using garden fresh cherry tomatoes. Continue reading

Vegan Okra Etouffee

Vegan Okra Etouffee by Alison's AllspiceEtoufee is one of my favorite comfort food dishes.  It occurred to me not long ago, that the only ingredient keeping my favorite etouffee from being vegan was the seafood.  Therefore, I decided to try vegan okra etouffee as a plant based version!

I chose to use okra to replace the seafood because it is traditional in Cajun cuisine.  I have seen variations that use chickpeas, but they don’t match the flavor and texture of the original dish, in my opinion. Continue reading

Korean BBQ Jackfruit Nachos with Kimchi

Korean BBQ Jackfruit Nachos with Kimchi by Alison's AllspiceKimchi is one of those things that you either love, or hate, and I love it!  Ever since I discovered my love of kimchi, I have been looking for new ways to use it.  These Korean BBQ jackfruit nachos with kimchi are a fun way to mix it up!

As I start to think about nachos, I am realizing that I have never posted my favorite traditonal nacho recipe.  I have a greek nachos recipe, and a 4th of July themed nachos, so traditional nachos are on the way 😉 Continue reading

Peanut Butter Dog Cake

Peanut Butter Dog Cake by Alison's AllspiceOur little Pepper turned 2 years old!  It has been years since I wrote about her on the blog (you can see my first post here), and as you can see, she isn’t little any more.  This year, we celebrated by making her a peanut butter dog cake!

Peanut butter is Peppers favorite flavor, so it was an obvious choice for our dog cake.  The peanut butter also doubles as a frosting, which is appropriate because no cake is complete without frosting! Continue reading

Feta and Herb Coleslaw

Feta and Herb Coleslaw by Alison's AllspiceOne of the vegetables that I always have in my fridge is red cabbage.  It can add crunch and color to almost any dish, even as a simple side like this feta and herb coleslaw.

The sauce is blended up in the food processor, and you simply mix it with sliced cabbage.  This is a seriously easy side that takes almost no time or effort.  Continue reading

Mediterranean Chickpea Zucchini Skillet

Mediterranean Chickpea Zucchini Skillet by Alison's AllspiceThis one skillet meal screams summer with all its fresh ingredients!  My favorite part of this mediterranean chickpea zucchini skillet?  The wine sauce!  It ties the whole dish together.

Ok, so no duh, I love the wine sauce.  I do love wine. It’a also an important component because it keeps the skillet moist.  Mine completely absorbed (so it wasn’t very saucy) but the flavor it added was SO good! Continue reading

Grilled Eggplant and Herb Wrap

Grilled Eggplant and Herb Wrap by Alison's AllspiceHas everyone had a great summer full of grilling? I grill out every Sunday night.  This week, I made a grilled eggplant and herb wrap that is loaded with fresh flavor!

Are you a fan of eggplant?  It can be bitter, and salting the eggplant helps to remove those bitter flavors.  Also, the fresher the eggplant, the less bitter.

Some people are sensitive to eggplants bitterness, and others not.  Therefore, this may be a step you can skip if you don’t notice the bitter flavor of eggplant. Continue reading

High Protein Chocolate Chunk Muffins

High Protein Chocolate Chunk Muffins by Alison's AllspiceWhenever I get hungry in the middle of the afternoon, I reach for one of these high protein chocolate chunk muffins!  They feel like a treat, while also filling me up and helping me to snack less!

Usually when I get hungry before dinnertime, its because I needed a little extra protein.  However, I’m one of those people that wants everthing I eat to feel special, not just I’m eating because I have to. If  you eat because you are hungry, but don’t feel satisfied with what you eat, you’re likely to keep snacking. Continue reading

Korean BBQ Tempeh Wraps

Korean BBQ Tempeh Wraps by Alison's AllspiceHave you tried Korean BBQ, or gochujang sauce yet? In these Korean BBQ tempeh wraps, the spicy gochujang is balanced by cool cucumber and creamy mayo.

Gochujang sauce is spicy, which is one reason I love it.  If you (or a member of your family) don’t like spicy, try using regular BBQ sauce in the skillet and personalize each wrap with spicy Korean or sweet American BBQ sauce. Continue reading

Lemon Dill Zucchini Fritters with Yogurt Sauce

Lemon Dill Zucchini Fritters with Yogurt Sauce ny Alison's Allspice I ate these lemon dill zucchini fritters with yogurt sauce for dinner last week.  It was one of those nights that I just didn’t want to make anything else.  But that’s how I roll.

I’m an entree girl, very seldom do I make a main and side dish.  That’s why all my veggie burger recipes make 4, because I eat 2 for dinner!  Also, egg rolls.  I eat them as an entree as well.  It’s tasty.  Why not? Continue reading
