Sometimes an awesome side is all you need to complete a meal. Already have a favorite recipe and need something to go with it? I’ve been there. This simple recipe for garlicky green beans is fresh and full of flavor! Perfect to sit beside your favorite meal, simple enough to bring for pot lucks, and just fancy enough to serve for big meals like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
I like to leave my green beans whole after trimming the ends. I think it gives them a sophisticated look that you know didn’t come out of a can. I have made this recipe with frozen beans in a pinch, but fresh is better. I also love to slice my garlic for this recipe. It allows picky eaters to easily discard, and I love the large golden slices. This simple green bean dish is eye appealing and delicious. Serve it for your next big meal. Enjoy!
- 2 handfuls fresh green beans (washed and trimmed)
- 2 TBS water
- 1 large garlic clove, sliced
- ½ TBS butter
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Heat a large, heavy-bottomed skillet (I prefer cast iron) over medium high heat. Stir in green beans and water and cover with a lid. Keep the beans covered 3-5 minutes to allow them to steam in the water.
- Reduce heat to medium and remove the lid, there should be little to no water left in the skillet.
- Add the butter and garlic to the green beans and saute until garlic is golden and green beans are starting to blister, 2-3 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper, serve.
