Crispy Buffalo Tofu Bites

Crispy Buffalo Tofu Bites by Alison's AllspiceA few weeks ago I shared a recipe for my ultimate crispy tofu that is so cripsy and crunchy that you will never make tofu another way again.  This week, I transformed the recipe to make these crispy buffalo tofu bites!

When I first transitioned to a meatless lifestyle, I missed buffalo wings the most.  While these buffalo tofu bites are not “wings” they do satify that desired for something crispy and spicy! Continue reading

Turmeric Rice with Cumin Toasted Chickpeas

Turmeric Rice with Cumin Toasted Chickpeas by Alison's AllspiceI seem to see a lot of “rice and chickpeas” style dishes out there on the web and I decided that I had to see what they are all about.  Honestly, I was surprised at how simple yet flavorful the idea is.  Check out my turmeric rice with cumin toasted chickpeas recipe to see what I mean.

When I look at a bowl full of rice and chicpeas, I think there is nothing to it.  It’s gonna be bland.  Well, that just doesn’t have to be the case; not when you’re in the Allspice kitchen! Continue reading

Easy Italian Polenta Pie

Easy Italian Polenta Pie by Alison's AllspiceThis fast and easy Italian polenta pie is a cassarole-like dish that uses pantry staples like lentils, marinara, and a tube of prepared polenta.

Mr. Allspice (who is not usually a cassarole fan) said it was “surprisingly good,” so perhaps you can surprise your family with this easy dish as well. Continue reading

Ultimate Crispy Tofu

Ultimate Crispy Tofu by Alison's AllspiceFriends, today I have for you a recipe that is like no others.  I have tried for years to replicate the crispy tofu that my favorite local thai restaurant makes without success.  Finally, I have figured out how to make the ultimate crispy tofu, without needing to add breading.

In this previous post, Easy Pan Fried Crispy Tofu, I outlined the most common way that I make tofu.  The exterior gets crispy and the interior stays soft.  It is easy and delicous, but this recipe has a secret method that makes even Crispier tofu.  Yes, Crispy with a capital C! Continue reading

Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Stew

Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Stew by Alison's AllspiceThis Brazilian coconut shrimp stew is traditionally called moqueca.  It can be made with fish or various types of seafood.  I decided to try this dish because I loved the look of the creamy coconut with the rich seafood.

In my version I only used shirmp and not multiple types of seafood.  This simplified the dish to be something that I could make with mostly pantry staples and frozen shirmp. Continue reading

Miso Mushroom Lentil Shepherd’s Pie

Miso Mushroom Lentil Shepherd's Pie by Alison's AllspiceI have a mushroom miso pasta bake recipe that I adore.  The umami flavors of both mushrooms and miso simply work together.  Mushroom shepherds pie is a family favorite and one day it just clicked – I have to give it a miso makeover!  Try my miso mushroom lentil shepherd’s pie for a new spin on the classic.

I added lentils to my family’s mushroom sheperds pie recipe because I wanted this recipe to have more protein.  Sometimes recipes that are all vegetable (like mushrooms and potato) leave me feeling hungry!  Continue reading

Mushroom Parmesan Baked Brown Rice Risotto

Mushroom Parmesan Brown Rice Risotto by Alison's AllspiceRisotto is one of the most common ways to make rice in Italy.  Once you have tried it, you will completely understand why.  It has a creamy mouthfeel that is not a usual characteristic of rice.  Try my mushroom parmesan baked brown rice risotto to see what I mean.

Traditonally, risotto is made with arborio rice.  It is a short grain white rice that readily releases its starches to produce the creamy texture.  I used brown rice in my version because it is higher in protein and fiber. Continue reading

Ginger Red Lentil Pumpkin Soup

Ginger Red Lentil Pumpkin Soup by Alison's AllspiceSoup season is in full swing here in the allspice world and I have been playing with lots of recipes; old and new recipes alike. This ginger red lentil pumpkin soup recipe comes from an old favorite that needed a re-do.

Are you a blended soup fan?  I adore blended soups, hence why this recipe is a favorite.  Blended soups turn vegetables into a creamy oblivion that is swoon worthy.  This recipe is no exception.  It also lets me star one of my favorite ingredients: Lentils. Continue reading

Gluten Free Zucchini Tots

Gluten Free Zucchini Tots by Alison's AllspiceHappy New Year everyone!  Today I am having a flash back to the summer months when I had so many zucchini that I didn’t know what to do with them all.  These gluten free zucchini tots were a staple during summer, and area a great way to start the new year!

I am not a new year resolutions person.  It just doesn’t suit me.  I perfer the moto “moderation in everything.”  To me means that you don’t need to feel guilty for life’s small pleasures. Continue reading

Butternut Squash Chickpea Curry

Butternut Squash Chickpea Curry by Alison's AllspiceCurry is a great dish to make in advance for busy nights because the flavors only get better as it sits.  This butternut squash chickpea curry is loaded with vegetables as well as flavor!
