This smoked tofu vegan BLT is on regular rotation at my house! It is one of my favorite ways to use my smoked tofu recipe; I think we have it every time I pull out the smoker!
This dish is hardly a recipe because a quality smoked tofu is all you need to make vegan bacon. Just thin slice it and pan fry in some oil. Your house will smell heavenly!
I always home-smoke my tofu because it is so easy. Of course, you have to have a smoker but my smoker has become one of my favorite cooking tools. Sometimes I read that people don’t think they are for cooking vegan foods, but litterally anything can be smoked! Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.
I always use Dijon mustard on my vegan BLT’s because it adds a pop of flavor that makes this otherwise simple sandwich really special. Of course, you can add your special pop of flavor with just about anything you like. Suggestions can be found below.
Tips and Tricks for this Smoked Tofu Vegan BLT recipe:
- Use a quality smoked tofu. If you have a brand of smoked tofu you know and love, that’s great. You can find my homemade smoked tofu recipe here. If you make it, and can’t find a store brand you like, try baked or grilled tofu instead.
- Special add ins/extras: Try avocado or guacamole, hot sauce such as sriracha, basil or basil pesto, pickled peppers such as bananan peppers, the options are just as diverse and creative as you are!
- Pan frying the tofu: The outside of the tofu block with natrually become brown instead of golden like the inside will. Therefore your slices will come out of the skillet looking different from one another, FYI.
- Make it maple flavored “Bacon”: Mix together 1 tsp each apple cider vinegar and maple syrup. Pour over tofu slices in the skillet when they are almost finished frying and stir to coat. This is not necessary for great flavor, but it is tasty.
- 8 oz package smoked tofu

- Heat the canola oil in a heavy bottomed skillet until sizzling. Add the smoked tofu and cook until caramelized and heated through.
- Toast the bread slices and spread with vegan mayo and Dijon mustard.
- Top the toast with tomato slices, lettuce, and hot fried tofu slices.
